New Tay Valley Talks

6 December 2022

New Tay Valley Talks are in preparation for 2023! And if you'd like to give a talk, contact our Chair's address (on the contact us page).

Latest Tay Valley Talk is by Louise Bowles, on 'Ancestry DNA - a tool for your Family History Research'. Accessed at https://youtu.be/Xc6rYy-sXHI  Question and Answer session for Members was via Zoom, 31st October. See members’ resources 'Research Information' for details.

Previous Tay Valley Talk was by Jennifer Jolly, on ‘Robertson’s Land, the highest tenement building in Dundee’. Accessed at  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISHyYU5t67g Question and Answer session for Members was on Zoom, 29th August. See members’ resources for details.

Our Honorary President, Iain Flett (formerly Chief Archivist at Dundee City Archives, has provided our immediately previous video-talk on ‘The Kirkmaister of Dundee’. This talk covers 800 years of history, from David Earl of Huntingdon through the Reformation, the “Rough Wooing”, the Monck occupation, destructions and rebuildings (and their costs) to the great Hospital Act of the Victorian age when the Dundee Burgh clergy complained that they weren't being paid enough. Fascinating insights into history, and also into some of the resources of the Dundee City Archives.

For copyright reasons, this video is available only to our members - see members’ resources for details. A Q&A (zoom) for members was held at 8.00 p.m. UK time on Monday 27th June 2022.
