Membership Benefits

By becoming a member of the Tay Valley Family History Society, you can look forward to all the following membership benefits and more.

  • Access to our comprehensive Getting Started information, including guidance and materials on how to begin your family history research in the Tay Valley area. Look for your introductory email!
  • Members receive copies of our journal The Historian three times a year. Copies are also available to members on our website in the members’ area.
You may submit your research interests, queries and articles to the Editor for publication.
  • Access through our website, to a Members Only Area, with exclusive information to further assist your research.
  • A Forum to share your finds, queries and photographs on our website; and access to our members-only Facebook group, to chat and share short queries.
  • Free use of the Research Centre and Library, including various online subscription websites, access to members' pedigree charts, family group sheets, and many other local and historical sources.
  • Guidance and support in your research, from our experienced volunteers, during your visits to the Research Centre.
  • Affiliation to some other Scottish Family History Societies who are also members of the Scottish Association of Family History Societies (SAFHS) – our members may use their facilities free of charge, on production of their membership introduction email or receipt, or a notification from TVFHS that they are members.
  • Access to recent issues of journals of some of our 'sister' Family History Society organisations, some online, some via our library.
  • Research services such as lookups, finding certificates and limited family history research (at a small additional cost to members).

NOTE

New Members will receive their journal electronically. (We are no longer offering a membership with a printed journal posted out for new members.)  We would encourage existing members to opt for receiving their copies of the journal electronically if possible. Due to rising postage and printing costs, it is becoming less feasible to produce a printed version whilst keeping membership subscriptions as low as possible.

We are looking into ways to phase out the printed journal over a period of several years to allow our existing members to adjust. The e-journal will be emailed to those who provide an email address (3 times a year) and will also be available to our members on our website in the members area.

If you would like to receive the benefits of being a member, you may join the Society in one of the following ways:

  • Call in at the Research Centre at 179-181 Princes Street, Dundee.
  • Telephone the Centre on +44 (0)1382 461845 and provide personal and credit or debit card details.
  • Online Payment - Subscriptions can be paid by credit or debit card through PayPal. This is the quickest and easiest way to join!
  • Annual subscription rates can be found on the Membership Fees page.

Note that PayPal is only an easy way to transfer the payment to us - you do NOT need a PayPal account to use it. You'll be shown a little form to input your card details.
