The Historian

Three times a year, in February, June and October, every member of Tay Valley Family History Society receives a copy of the Society's journal, The Historian. Each issue of the journal is full of interesting articles submitted by members about people and topics they have uncovered in the course of their own family history research. Sharing their experiences and interests can be invaluable to other members and makes great reading.

The journal also contains news about the Society and what is happening in our Research Centre at 179-181 Princes Street, Dundee, dates for your diary about forthcoming events, and a chance to give feedback through the letters page. There are also articles and features about the areas covered by Tay Valley: Angus, Perth & Kinross-shire and Fife.

Other features include meeting reports, news from the library, and book reviews. There are tips about using online resources for research as well as information on useful websites - members' contributions to these are welcome.

Members wishing to seek help with their research or to make contact with other members who have similar interests may submit requests to the Help Wantedand MembersInterestssection of the journal by contacting us.

Recent issues of The Historian are in the ‘Journal Archive' section of this website (as a resource for members).

Would you like to send us something for publication?

  • The Journal is always looking for articles and photographs from contributors old and new; if your article is accepted, you will have the thrill of seeing your own work in print.
  • Articles should be typed in 12pt Arial font, preferably in Microsoft Word. We can accept Discs or Memory Sticks, but preferably as an email attachment. Preferred length of articles is approximately 1000 words. Longer articles may be accepted, but may be published in instalments. From time to time we request short pieces on a stated topic.
  • Any photographs or images should be in JPEG (.jpg) format. It is the responsibility of the author to check permissions for images or photographs.
  • The Editor reserves the right to edit articles. It should be noted that no responsibility is accepted by the Society for views or comments expressed by contributors in articles or correspondence.
  • Articles should be original and not have appeared in another publication.
  • Articles and features remain copyright to the writers.
