We welcome you to our Research Centre, at 179-181 Princes Street Dundee!
We have an extensive library of resources, several computers for members’ use, and the centre is staffed by volunteers who have their own areas of expertise. We are happy to guide and advise you in conducting your research.
The Society has subscriptions to major online genealogical sites (such as Find My Past and Ancestry), so that these can be accessed freely by members at our premises. We encourage members and visitors to have their own account with Scotland’s People (though if needed we can make use of the Society’s credits, charged at cost to the member).
Many members make use of the facilities to discover key information about their ancestors, using Old Parish Records, Census records, Monumental Inscriptions or indeed the Pedigree charts or transcriptions that others have submitted.
Others however make extensive use of our resources to further historical and genealogical research on behalf of the Society, producing new resources for sharing. The resources of our Centre go far beyond the ‘basics’ and our volunteers can assist you to explore them.
(As an example, our Library holds research papers of leading genealogist Lawrence R. Burness, a rich source of genealogical and historical knowledge.)
Our skilled Research Team makes use of our facilities to pursue projects (for a small fee) for members or others who require this service. Fees are £10 per hour for members, £20 for non-members. All charges or fees go to the upkeep and maintenance of the Society and our research activities.
