Tay Valley Family History Society was founded in 1980, as the third Scottish regional FHS, and now has strong worldwide membership. We have Research premises at 179-181 Princes Street, Dundee and there extend a welcome to our members. This Centre gives a focus, what we do goes far beyond it.
The book shop is up again and we welcome your orders!
However, if you have ordered a book from us via the 'Shop' please ALSO drop us an email to confirm the order. And, if you have ordered any book from us since Monday 11th November, please confirm this with an email to us - send email to our standard Tay Valley address.
(And if people want to pick up on our SPECIAL OFFER for Christmas (as seen in 'News' below and on our Facebook) best to send us an email directly, especially if you can pick the books up in the shop and save postage!)
The Centre is open five days a week.
Please check CONTACT page for details of opening hours. This link is also in the top menu bar
The Society aims to promote the study of family history, genealogy and local history throughout the Tay Valley: the former counties of Angus, Fife, Kinross and Perthshire, and the City and Royal Burgh of Dundee. Our members’ research interests move from stories of highland settlement and migration to the growth of linen and jute trades and the many associated industries in burghs and cities. Tales of hardship, romance or success – all are part of what our members discover.
And if you're new to Family History, or needing a refresher - our Family History Course ran again this year from mid-March. Six weeks of 'Beginner' and then three weeks of 'Advanced' class - people could sign up for the Beginner, the Advanced or for both. We plan to run these again - keep watching 'News' lower down this page.
Our Journal, The Historian, is published three times a year, with contributions from many members across the world, and we run a series of video talks for members, with a ‘Question and Answer’ session via Zoom so that our international members may participate. Details of current talks are in the ‘News’ section - talks generally have their Q&A sessions on the final Mondays of January, April, July and October. Scroll down this page to News and Events for info.
Our Website is now mostly complete but some parts are still in development. We ask members - if you spot anything that looks not quite right, typos or errors or confusing things, please do let us know (email to the TayValley address, tvfhs@tayvalleyfhs.org.uk) so we can fix it! MEMBERS can log in - use your email address as your login.
