June issue of The Historian, No. 104

The printed version of the Journal is now out, but the editor has asked me to point out that the name of the Speaker at the AGM is Joseph Morrow and not Tom Morrow.

I received the electronic version from the printer yesterday evening and was preparing to send it out when I got the message to wait. I have made that change, but I will not send it out as there may be more changes. Another advantage you get by receiving the electronic version, last minute changes can go in, even if the printer sends the hard copy out first. If you are still getting the printed copy, you will be able to see the updated version on the website. I will post an update to this when that happens.

I would also draw the attention of UK taxpayers to the item on Gift Aid Declarations on pages 12 and 13 of the Journal. If you do not wish to cut the form out of the magazine, you can download it from the website – http://www.tayvalleyfhs.org.uk/uploads/soc-docs/Gift_Aid_Declaration.pdf.

Michael Fergus Bowes-Lyon, 18th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne

Members of TVFHS will be sad to hear of the death of our Honorary President, Michael Fergus Bowes-Lyon, 18th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne. He died at the age of 58 on 27 February 2016 following a long illness.
In 1985, the then Lord Glamis agreed to accept the position of Honorary President, which he continued to hold until his death. An obituary and tributes from his family can be read on The Courier’s website.
Our condolences go to his family.

The Historian No. 104, June, 2016

The latest issue of the Society Journal is now at the printers and will soon be heading towards your letter box. As soon as the E-Journal becomes available, it, too, will be on its way, flying through cyberspace to the inbox of each of those who have requested it. Editor Mary Daun wishes to apologise for the Journal being late.

Society Members Get Together

In the last two years, we have held a get together for Members and Volunteers in February. These have proved very successful. This year’s ‘Do’ will be held on Saturday 12th March from 1.30pm in Dundee Trinity Parish Church Hall (entry off Victoria Street). Sandwiches, cakes and tea or coffee will be provided and there will be a slide show of old pictures of the Tayside area. To help with catering, please let us know by 26th February 2016 if you intend to attend. Call in to the Centre, e-mail, telephone or write
